Elon Musk is one of the most successful inventors of the 21st century. But it’s not all about talent, it’s about the path to success and the approach to life. Let’s take a peek at a couple of his secrets to being successful.

1. Work Like Hell

“Work like hell. I mean you just have to put in 80 to 100 hour weeks every week. This improves the odds of success. If other people are putting in 40 hour work weeks and you’re putting in 100 hour work weeks, then even if you’re doing the same thing you know that.. you will achieve in 4 months what it takes them a year to achieve.”

It’s deceptive to think that big ideas can only come from big money. When Elon and his brother co-founded the company that became PayPal they rented a small office, slept on the couch, and showered at the local YMCA. Success is about hard work.

2. Never give up

“I don’t ever give up. I’d have to be dead or completely incapacitated.”

We can definitely see that Elon is the kind of person who never gives up. I think that’s what makes space exploration and electric sports cars seem more real than ever. It is assertiveness and unwillingness to give up that are important on the road to success.

2. Like whatever you are doing

“Whatever area you get into, even if you’re the best of the best, there is always a chance of failure, So I think it’s important that you really like whatever you are doing. If you don’t like it, life is too short. If you like what you are doing you think about it even when you’re not working. It’s something that your mind is drawn to. And if you don’t like it you just really can’t make it work”

We all know this rule, you’re more likely to succeed at something you enjoy than the other way around.

4. Create a great product

“You have to make sure that whatever you’re doing is a great product or service…If you are a new company unless it’s like some new industry or new market if it’s an untapped market, then you have more ability to the standard is lower for your product or service, but if you are entering anything where there’s an existing market place against lodge and trenched competitor your product or service needs to be much better than theirs, it can’t be a little bit better because then you put yourself in the choose of the consumer and they say why would you buy it is as a consumer, you’re always gonna bribe a trusted brand unless there is a big difference, so a lot of times, an entrepreneur will come up with something which is only slightly better and it’s can’t be just slightly better. It’s got to be a lot better.”

To be successful at something you have to love what you do, believe in your product, improve it every day, so you’re always a couple of steps ahead. And never give up. Don’t let small setbacks knock you down, adapt quickly, and keep moving forward.
